Creating a brand identity is one of the most important things that you can do for your blog or business. If you want to take your blog to the next level, appear professional, and builds your audience’s trust, then you need to focus on your branding. Branding is your vision + your voice + your visuals. Branding is the set of expectations and relationships that a consumer takes into account when purchasing a product or service over another. Brand Identity are the elements used to visually represent the company and usually compiled in a Brand Board or Style guide. So we are going to discuss how these play a part in your brand identity and how it all comes together to create a brand board that you can use across your blog or business. Branding is more than just making things look pretty. There are many pieces that come together to create your brand identity.

Once I created my brand board it was a huge time saver when I go to edit images for my social platforms.  I would get seduced by all those pretty filters and my feeds looked like a hot confused mess. Your brand board will keep your look consistent and professional.

A brand board is a collection of fonts, colors, and patterns that represent your brand. A brand board is designed to act as a quick reference guide for you to refer to for anything and everything that is designed for your business.  Check out this brand board designed from Golden Fox Design.

Here are the essentials:

LOGO DESIGN

At the top of your guide include your main logo.

COLOR PALETTE

Next, include at least 4 -5 main colors of your brand on the board.  Not sure what are your main colors, no problem.  Use Color Palette Generators such as these:

Color Palette Generator by Canva

ColorKuler – This tool is amazing!  You can extract colors from any Instagram profile.  Drooling over another Instagram’s feed and color palette?  Simply insert their Instagram username and ColorKuler will find their color palette! BOOM!!

Display all your main colors of your brand.  Keep your colors swatches minimal and try not to go overboard with your choices in this section.

SUB LOGO

Not all brands have a sub logo.  A sub logo or sub mark is another element that is pulled from the main logo. It’s usually smaller than the main logo.

ICON

Place any icons used for your brand.  This includes your favicon.

TYPOGRAPHY

Decide on the fonts to represent your brand and place them here.  On an average, a brand uses 2-3 font styles besides their main signature logo font.  Have you ever heard of the Creative Market website?  If you’re struggling with finding the perfect font(s) to represent your brand, I highly recommend signing up (free) and searching the fonts here.  This is where I found my current Lola Celeste signature font.  Cute huh?

INSPIRATION

Should I even have to say where to go for design inspiration?  Exactly….Pinterest. Go take a look at your boards and narrow down those images that nail your business look, tone, style, and mood.  If you are not on Pinterest then don’t go to bed tonight without heading over there and signing up. (follow me while you’re at it HERE)  It’s only the best website for all things inspiring ever!
